Radon
Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that occurs naturally in soil, rocks, groundwater and outdoor air. Radon gas is given off by radioactive elements such as uranium and radium. Radon becomes hazardous to human health when it accumulates inside buildings. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers radon to be a leading cause of lung cancer in the US, second only to smoking. The EPA has issued guidelines for safe levels of radon and recommendations for remediation when radon levels exceed the “action level”. Testing buildings for radon is easy, inexpensive and extremely important.
